Current Challenges in Education
The stakeholders in education see that technology and standardized assessments continue to raise the stakes on how and what students of all levels should be taught. The challenges to raising the stakes are as complex as the technology and assessments that are driving the needs.
In the article, by Allan Collins and Richard Halverson, "Rethinking Education in the Age of Technology: The Digital Revolution and the Schools" the authors list a series of incompatibilities that have arisen between schooling and technology such as: "Uniform learning vs Customization; Teacher as expert vs. Diverse knowledge sources; Standardized assessment vs. Specialization; Knowledge in the head vs. Reliance on outside resources; Coverage vs. The knowledge explosion; and Learning by acquisition vs. Learning by doing…there are many reasons why schools are uncomfortable with new technology. But technology is becoming central to all of life... [and] the seeds of a new system [will include]…lifelong learning." These conflicts are reflected in the constant struggle and dialogue for successful education. They reflect the problems with 21st century education.

The Challenge of Technology
Caught in the Middle
Stuck in the middle, of this tug-of-war are the teachers. Administrators are demanding validation of instructional time through the use of standards, formative and summative assessments. Parents are demanding results as evidenced through standards, daily reporting, and standard assessment success. Students are demanding to be taught in ways that allow them to understand the content and control how the content is delivered.
With all these demands, teachers, in many places have virtually no outlets to help them navigate the changing landscape of education. Too often the tools made available to teachers, in college or through professional development are insufficient when speeches and textbooks must blend in and their professional development and education have virtually no outlets to help them navigate the landscape. This is where Millennial Education Services and its consultants becomes useful. The company's goal is to help schools' and teachers' navigate and adjust successfully to the changing face of education.
